Methodist theatre performance
The Sunday School room in the basement of Farnhill Methodist Chapel had
facilities for a temporary stage to be erected at one end and was often used for
amateur theatricals.
We have no idea when this photograph was taken or what the event was; but the
late Gladys Crossley who, as a young Gladys Rishworth was a member of the cast,
left details of many of the performers – and a few of the audience.
Since this image was first published as part of our Group Photographs project,
we’ve been shown a better version of the photograph by Ken Barnes who was
given it by Dennis Foster. Dennis made a few more identifications but failed to
recognise himself (so perhaps our original identification was wrong ?).
The back-drop seen here was also used for a scout gang-show which we’ve already
looked at in our Group Photo Project.

About the “Group photographs project”
A number of group photographs have been contributed to our archive with very
little information attached to them. The aim of this project is to capture as much
detail as we can from those who might remember the events and people shown.
